A Peaceful March took place in protest of brutal killings of school learners and parents at Ha Molungoa and the nearby schools around Rothe Area in Maseru District on November 11, 2019.
Just recently, four learners from Morija and Molungoa Primary School as well as Thuto-ke-Leseli High School were brutally killed with their grandfather by unknown people. While earlier this month a night watchman and two boys from Thuto-ke Leseli were also killed on two different occasions, leaving one Grade 8 girl badly wounded.
After the devastating chain killings of learners from the mentioned schools, many students, parents and teachers were alarmed and deeply concerned. Hence, UNESCO-SMEF Thakakhoali on behalf of UNESCOM organized this Peace Walk to give the communities the chance to express their anger and their fears. Thanks to Cabana Solutions (Pty) Ltd sponsoring the event with 100 T-Shirts, the participants were able to walk together as one.
Education, i.e. learning in safety and peace, is a basic human right, that everyone is entitled to. We cannot allow such disturbing crimes to happen again, we cannot allow any student having to fear for his or her life while trying to get educated. Let us raise our voices against those crimes, let us stand with the victims, and let us not leave anyone behind.
