On Saturday 18th August, more than 100 people attended the event “Women in Power - Mosali oa mankhonthe; khalala ea ho ts’oara thipa ka bohaleng” at the UNESCO hall in the heart of Maseru.
Together we celebrated African Women’s Month by valuing women and women’s leadership in Lesotho and showcasing some amazing work in various fields.
On stage were several hard working women who talked about their respective field of work. After each speech or presentation, we had important and lively discussions with the audience about issues Basotho women have to face in their everyday life. A highlight was the Women Leadership Award which was given to 5 outstanding Basotho role models.
Thank you to MC Khauhelo Mile and to all the speakers and performers who shared their stories, namely Kiva Phakisi (Girls like us), Mphoma Rampeta and Reabotsoe Ntau (Rare Diseases Association), Tsebo Phakisi, Khami Malie, Mpho Letima and many more.
The vibe and the ambiance during the whole event were incredible and everyone could truly feel how much passion this role models have for improving the status of Basotho women in our society.
UNESCO National Commission is proud to have hosted such a successful event and we’re looking forward to further establish the conversation about women in Lesotho.
