The newly assigned Programme Coordinator for Culture ‘Matsooana Sekokotoana (Ms) invited several stakeholders and partners for a meeting on the 27th June 2018 at the UNESCO Commission hall.

The objective of the meeting was to reconnect and revive the UNESCO Culture Programme in Lesotho.

‘Matsooana Sekokotoana opened the meeting by welcoming the participants; followed by Zachary Rosen, who is one of the partners of Ba re e ne re Literature Festival as well as currently an intern at Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO. Mr Rosen gave a summary on the work of UNESCO in general and highlighted some of the programmes and activities of the Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO.

Ms Sekokotoana also gave a presentation on UNESCO’s Culture programme as well as its activities, highlighting on the importance of Lesotho to participate in these programmes. She continued to encourage local stakeholders and partners to strive towards a collective effort to strengthen the Cultural sector in Lesotho, through peace and tolerance towards one another.

The participants also had very good discussions about how to further establish and progress the cultural scene in Lesotho, while being very aware of the challenges.

Lastly, a Working Team was nominated to work together with Ms Sekokotoana in establishment, which consists of approximately 10 members. This team will also play a big part in linking the National Commission office with the larger community of stakeholders.

The meeting was completed by a lunch during which the participants had once again the chance to network and to exchange ideas.
