April 5, 2017
The Secretary General of the Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO (LNCU) officially launched free access to internet to the LNCU Documentation Centre. The event took place on Thursday 30th March, 2017 in the presence of staff and about 30 library users from about five institutions of higher learning based in Maseru.
The first library-users start taking advantage of free access to internet
The purpose of providing free internet to the library users was aligned with the UNESCO Communication and Information programme priority area of fostering access to information. Funds in this project emanated from the participation programme entitled: Distance and Rural Learner/Teacher Support Through Mobile Digital Mode.
While handing over the service, the Secretary General encouraged the users to use the free internet to do research based work as well as accessing Free and Open source Software. In the close of the event, readers also expressed their gratefulness to UNESCO noting that it is not common in Lesotho to access free internet in public libraries.
